Aleister Crowley: The Man Behind “Do What Thou Wilt”
Most people only know his name from a meme, a lyric, or a t-shirt.
Aleister Crowley.
To some, he’s a “weird occult guy from history.” To others, he’s a hero of “magick,” “freedom,” and “do what you want.”
But when you strip the branding off and test everything by the Word of YAHUAH, you’re not just looking at a man—you’re looking at a spirit that still moves in culture today.
This isn’t about clout. It’s about discernment.
Who Was Aleister Crowley?
Aleister Crowley (1875–1947) was an English occultist, ceremonial magician, writer, and founder of a religious system called Thelema.
He:
- Grew up in a strict religious home (Plymouth Brethren).
- Rejected biblical faith with rage, not just doubt.
- Immersed himself in occult orders like the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.
- Practiced ritual magic, sex magic, drug use, and open rebellion against moral law.
- Called himself “The Great Beast 666” and embraced the title.
The world calls him “eccentric.” He called himself a beast. Scripture calls that agreement with the adversary.
“Do What Thou Wilt”: The Core of His System
Crowley’s central slogan:
“Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.”
That’s the heart of his religion, Thelema.
On the surface, it sounds like:
- Radical individuality
- Freedom from control
- “Be yourself, live your truth”
But underneath, it’s the same lie the serpent whispered in Bereshith (Genesis):
“You shall be as elohiym…”
In other words:
- No submission to YAHUAH
- No Torah, no boundaries
- Your will is the highest law
Thelema teaches:
- Find your “True Will” and follow it at any cost.
- Moral constraints, especially biblical ones, are chains to be broken.
This is not just philosophy. It is spiritual war against the will of YAHUAH.
Crowley’s Obsession With the Occult
Crowley wasn’t playing around with “aesthetic witchcraft.”
He:
- Performed ceremonial magic rituals invoking “spirits.”
- Used sex, blood, and drugs in ritual contexts.
- Wrote manuals on magic and “contacting entities.”
- Claimed to receive channeled texts from a spirit he called Aiwass, including The Book of the Law (Liber AL vel Legis).
From a biblical lens:
- “Aiwass” is not a neutral “higher intelligence.”
- It’s what Scripture would call an unclean spirit or demon.
What he received, he wrote down. What he wrote down, he passed on. What he passed on, spread into music, media, and modern spirituality.
The Trail of Influence: From Crowley to Pop Culture
Even if people don’t know his name, they’ve inhaled his ideas.
Crowley’s influence can be traced in:
- Rock and pop culture – artists fascinated with the occult, chaos, and rebellion name-drop him or quote his ideas.
- New Age and “do your own path” spirituality – the idea that your personal will is the highest truth.
- Modern witchcraft and occult revivals – rituals, symbols, and phrases that trace back to his writings.
- Sexual revolution and drug culture – “break all rules, follow desire, taboo-smashing” energy that lines up with his life.
When you see:
- Glorification of “chaos”
- Obsession with “my truth” over any higher truth
- Magick dressed up as aesthetics
you’re seeing Crowley’s spirit, even if his name isn’t on it.
Why This Matters for Believers
This isn’t about random trivia. It’s about recognizing the doctrine behind the vibe.
Crowley’s core message:
- Your will is supreme.
YAHUSHA’s core message:
“Not My will, but Yours be done.”
Crowley:
- Exalts self, desire, and experience.
The Kingdom:
- Exalts YAHUAH’s will, YAHUAH’s commands, YAHUAH’s purpose.
Crowley invited spirits. YAHUSHA cast them out.
Crowley used occult power to twist and control reality. YAHUSHA walked in the power of the RUACH HAQODESH to heal, deliver, and restore.
You can’t mix these. One leads to bondage dressed as “freedom.” The other leads to true freedom through surrender.
Signs of Crowley’s Spirit in Today’s Culture
You might not see his face, but you’ll see his fingerprints wherever you see:
1. Radical Self-Will as Religion
- “Follow your heart, no matter what.”
- “If it feels good and doesn’t hurt anyone, it’s fine.”
Self becomes the highest god.
2. Magick and the Occult Normalized as “Aesthetic”
- Tarot, sigils, rituals, and spellwork casually mixed into everyday life.
- “It’s just energy work, not that serious.”
3. Sin Repackaged as Spiritual “Growth”
- Sexual sin, perversion, and lawlessness framed as “exploration” or “shadow work” with no repentance.
- Boundaries mocked as “religious trauma,” not tested as holy.
4. Blasphemy Turned Into Fashion
- Anti-Messiah symbolism on clothes, album covers, and visuals sold as “art” and “edgy.”
Behind the branding is the same old thing:
“Do what thou wilt.”
“You shall be as elohiym.”
Same serpent. New graphics.
How to Respond as the Remnant
1. Stop Romanticizing the Occult
Crowley is not a harmless “edgy historical figure.” He opened doors to darkness on purpose.
Treat:
- His writings
- His rituals
- His sigils
as spiritually toxic, not “interesting content.”
2. Guard Your Eye and Ear Gates
Pay attention to:
- What you watch
- What you listen to
- What symbols you wear
Ask:
“Does this agree with YAHUSHA—or with ‘do what thou wilt’?”
3. Renounce Agreement With That Spirit
If you’ve:
- Played with magic “for fun”
- Obsessed over lawless “self-will” spirituality
- Worn or shared Crowley-inspired imagery knowingly
then:
- Repent before YAHUAH.
- Renounce any alignment with that spirit in the Name of YAHUSHA.
- Ask the RUACH HAQODESH to cleanse and reset your discernment.
4. Anchor Yourself in the Will of YAHUAH
The antidote to Crowley’s doctrine is not weak religion. It’s radical obedience to YAHUAH:
- “Teach me to do Your will, not mine.”
- “Write Your Torah on my heart.”
- “Let my desires bow to Your design.”
That’s where the real power is.
Where to Study This Yourself (With Discernment)
If you want to understand the history (not practice the occult), you can look at:
- Historical or biographical works on Aleister Crowley by researchers and historians (not fanboy occult sites).
- Academic or critical studies on:
- The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn
- Thelema and its influence on modern occult movements
- Occult influence on 20th-century art and music
When you research:
- Stay prayerful.
- Don’t dive into rituals, invocations, or “how-to” material.
- Use history to expose the darkness, not get fascinated by it.
Final Word
Aleister Crowley is gone. The spirit he partnered with is not.
This generation is being discipled either by:
- “Do what thou wilt,”
- “Not My will, but Yours be done.”
One leads to deeper chains dressed as freedom. One leads to a cross and then a crown.
The remnant doesn’t just reject Crowley as a man. We reject his doctrine, his spirit, and his agenda— and we cling to YAHUSHA, the One who shattered the works of darkness and calls us into marvelous light.
