Common Calendar Claims Tested by Scripture

Genesis 1:14 says the luminaries (sun and moon) were set for "signs and seasons, and for days and years." Psalm 104:19 says "He appointed the moon for seasons." The Hebrew word for "seasons" (mo'adim) is the same word used for YAHUAH's "appointed times" in Leviticus 23.

The moon marks months throughout Scripture (1 Samuel 20:5; Numbers 10:10; 28:11). The claim that the moon is irrelevant contradicts multiple clear passages.

While Abib does mean young, green grain (a spring indicator), Scripture also says to observe the luminaries (Genesis 1:14). Both the sun (marking the season) and the moon (marking the month) must align. Using grain alone without the luminaries ignores the foundational command.

The feasts fall on fixed days of the biblical month (e.g., Abib 14 for Passover), but the biblical months are lunar, not Gregorian. Since the lunar year is ~354 days and the solar year ~365, the Gregorian dates shift each year. The feasts don't float within the biblical calendar; they only appear to float on the Gregorian one.

The 11-day annual difference between lunar and solar cycles means that approximately every 2-3 years, the lunar calendar falls a full month behind the seasons. The 13th month arises naturally from observing both luminaries — we wait for the new moon after spring is established. This is observation, not human invention.

Every calendar has intercalation (including the Enochian, Zadok, and Gregorian calendars). The question is whether the adjustment comes from observing what YAHUAH placed in the sky or from a fixed mathematical formula.

The Gregorian calendar is a solar-only calendar introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 CE. It has no connection to the biblical lunar-solar calendar. YAHUAH's calendar uses both the sun (for seasons) and the moon (for months) as clearly commanded in Genesis 1:14.

Scripture requires Passover to be in Abib (spring), but the specific Gregorian month varies based on when the new moon falls after spring begins. In years with a 13th month, Passover may fall in May rather than April — because the previous new moon occurred before the equinox, and we must wait for the next one in the spring season.

If the luminaries are for "signs" (Genesis 1:14), we must be able to see them. The astronomical conjunction (dark moon) is invisible to the naked eye. The first visible crescent is what ancient Yashar'el observed — no instruments required, just looking up at the sky as YAHUAH intended (Psalm 81:3; 1 Samuel 20:5).

Genesis 1 repeatedly says "and there was evening, and there was morning" — evening is listed first. Leviticus 23:32 explicitly says "from evening to evening you shall keep your Sabbath." Nehemiah 13:19 describes the gates being shut as Shabbat began at sundown. The consistent scriptural witness is that the day begins at sunset.

YAHUAH commands His feasts "for all your generations" and "as an everlasting statute" (Leviticus 23:14, 21, 31, 41). YAHUSHA observed them (Luke 2:41-42; 22:15; John 7). After His resurrection, the apostles continued to keep them (Acts 2:1; 20:6, 16; 27:9; 1 Corinthians 5:8; 16:8). These are not "Jewish holidays" — they are YAHUAH's appointed times for all who are grafted into the covenant.
